Hey, I’m Tate. I’m a student loan lawyer and I help people throughout New Jersey with their student loan debt even though I’m here in St Louis and you live in Newark, Jersey City, Trenton, Cambden, or Wildwood.
And that’s true no matter what student loan issue you’re facing.
- Student loan wage garnishment
- Protect a tax refund from student loan offset
- Negotiate student loan settlement
- File student loan bankruptcy
I can help with all of those things. As far as attorneys specializing in student loans go, I’m pretty good --- at least that’s what my clients say about me on Google.
You can get my help with federal student loans
Let me guess:
You got a letter in the mail. It said that your federal student loans are in default and that your wages will be garnished. Or maybe it said your tax refund will be offset for student loans. Or, worse, maybe it said you’ve defaulted on your private student loan and they’re threatening to sue unless you make a large payment.
If any one of those is true, don’t worry. You’re not alone.
Last year, there was over $5.8 billion dollars in first-time federal student loan defaults.
I can help get you of student loan default, stop a wage garnishment, and stop your refund from being taken. But only if you move quickly. I can also help:
- Choose the right income-based repayment plan;
- Lower monthly payments;
- Consolidate student loans; and
- Settle federal student loans (but only if they’re in default)
Finally, I can ensure you’re student debt is eligible for student loan forgiveness programs like the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and income-based forgiveness.
You can get student loan help for NJ Class loans
NC Class loans aren’t like federal student loans. It’s a loan made by New Jersey’s Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA).
One major difference between a federal student loan and a class loan is forgiveness at death. HESAA doesn’t offer NJ Class loan forgiveness when you die and you have a cosigner. The debt remains owed. That means your parents could still be forced to repay the loan even though you predeceased them. ? Basically, New Jersey’s Student Loan Program is ‘State-Sanctioned Loan-Sharking.’
Until recently, another major difference was the lack of income-driven repayment options. But as of this April, that appears to be changing. New Jersey Senators Sandra Cunningham, Robert Gordon, and Robert Singer sponsored bill S-766 to:
- limit your monthly payment to no more than 10% of your discretionary income; and
- forgive your remaining debt after 20 years of repayment.
This is like the Revised Pay As You Earn plan.
As of April 5, 2018, the bill was referred to New Jersey’s Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee who voted 5 to 0 in favor of passing the bill. HESAA now has 2 repayment income-based repayment options:
- The Repayment Assistance Program (RAP); and
- The Household Income Affordable Repayment Plan(HIARP).
You can get my legal advice with some private student loan issues
With private student loans, I can help:
- Negotiate settlements;
- Negotiate lower monthly payments;
- Remove default status;
- Remove cosigners; and
- Evaluate refinance and consolidation options.
Having said that...
I cannot help with a private student lawsuit in New Jersey
So you know, I am a licensed student loan lawyer. But I have yet to get permission from a court in NJ to handle lawsuits.
So if you’re being sued for a student loan in a New Jersey state court, consider hiring a student loan attorney located in your state.
